• Material / Composition

  • Made of a copolymer: 90% glycolide + 10% L-lactide (i.e., Poly(glycolide-co-L-lactide), PGA-PLA) — same “polyglactin 910” chemistry.

  • Coating: The suture is coated with a mixture of PGLA 370 (a glycolide/lactide copolymer), calcium stearate, and triclosan (the antibacterial agent).

  • The presence of triclosan gives the “PLUS / Tri-PLUS” antibacterial capability. Triclosan-coated sutures help reduce bacterial colonization.

• Structure

  • Braided — multi-filament structure.

  • Coated, to improve handling, smoothness, knot security, and tissue passage.

  • Colour: Available in violet or undyed.

• Absorption and Strength Profile

  • Absorbs via hydrolysis.

  • Approximate absorption time: 56–70 days for near complete absorption.

  • Tensile strength: The suture retains a high initial tensile strength, but this strength progressively decreases due to hydrolysis of the PGA-PLA copolymer.

  • Wound support is described as “excellent”.

• Knot and Handling

  • Excellent knot security.

  • Good tissue compliance (i.e., it “feels right” / handles well).

  • Smooth passage through tissue, owing to its coating.

• Tissue Reaction

  • Minimal tissue reaction reported / claimed.

• Applications / Indications

  • Intended for general soft tissue approximation and ligation.

  • Not recommended for use in ophthalmic surgery or neurological tissues. According to supplier: “except in ophthalmic surgery, neurological tissues.”

  • The safety and effectiveness in cardiovascular tissues are not established.

• Sterilisation & Shelf Life

  • Sterilisation: Ethylene Oxide (EO).

  • Shelf life: 5 years.

• Sizes / Packaging

  • Available in a range of sizes: USP 8/0 to 2 (as per one supplier).

  • Packaging: Boxes with one, two or three dozens (depending on variant).

          Antibacterial Mechanism / Rationale

• The triclosan in the coating helps prevent bacterial colonization on the suture surface, thereby reducing risk of surgical site infections (SSI). This is a known benefit of triclosan-coated sutures.
